These installation instructions are for our new FPS 3000 Advanced Troubleshooting Skills Software. If you have not yet ordered this great troubleshooting skills training program or tried our free software demo, please click on the link in bold below.

Before You Begin

Important!
Product activation is required.

The product requires activation to unlock its full features. When you purchased the product you will have received, either by email or included with the package, documentation required to activate the programs.

Choose carefully a computer on which to install the software. Once the software has been installed and activated it cannot be moved to another computer without the assistance of Simutech Multimedia.

Installation Guide for a Single Computer

The following steps must be completed, in the order shown.

I. Install the program

If the software was DOWNLOADED from the website:

  1. Just double click the downloaded file to start the installation procedure, then follow the instructions displayed on your screen.

If you have a CD-ROM containing the software:

  1. Insert the PROGRAM CD-ROM into the CD Drive.
  2. If Autorun is enabled a startup screen will appear. If not, from the task bar select Start, then Run. Type the letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by :\autorun.exe (e.g., D:\autorun.exe)
  3. Click on Install FPS 3000 Troubleshooting Simulator and then follow the instructions displayed on your screen.
II. Activate the program

In order to be able to use the program it must be activated. Please follow the steps below to complete the activation process.

  1. Have your License ID and password available.
  2. Be sure the program is installed on the computer that you wish to run the program from. Once it is activated, the program cannot be moved to another computer.
  3. Launch the program from the Start menu.
  4. Click the Start button on the program screen. An activation screen will appear.
  5. Enter your LICENSE ID and PASSWORD and click the Next button.
  6. The program will attempt to activate over the Internet. If it fails to activate you will be given the following options:
    • Retry Automatic Activation. First make sure the computer is connected to the Internet and that the firewall is not blocking the program (you may have to temporarily disable the firewall while activating the program).
    • Activate Online to activate using any web browser. Use this option if the program does not activate automatically but you have access to the Internet either through this computer or another computer.
    • Activate Manually to activate via email or phone. Use this option only if you cannot activate the program using either of the above options.
  7. Once the program is activated, a message will advise you that you were successful. Click Continue to start using the program. You may also be requested to update your registration information.

Installation Guide for Networks

Notes:
  1. Only the Industrial Edition will operate on a network. Be sure you have purchased the Industrial Edition with the appropriate number of concurrent users.
  2. Installation and activation on the server must be done by a user with administrator privileges.
  3. The steps below must be completed, in the order shown.
  4. Once the software is activated, the program cannot be moved to another computer.
I. Install the program on the SERVER

If the software was DOWNLOADED from the website:

  1. Just double click the downloaded file to start the installation procedure, then follow the instructions displayed on your screen.
  2. The directory where the program was installed must be shared with read/execute permissions so that it can be accessed by the clients.

If you have a CD-ROM containing the software:

  1. Insert the PROGRAM CD-ROM into the CD Drive.
  2. If Autorun is enabled a startup screen will appear. If not, from the task bar select Start, then Run. Type the letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by :\autorun.exe (e.g., D:\autorun.exe)
  3. Click on Install FPS 3000 Troubleshooting Simulator and then follow the instructions displayed on your screen..
  4. The directory where the program was installed must be shared with read/execute permissions so that it can be accessed by the clients.
II. Activate the program on the SERVER

  6. At this point the program attempts to create a network share required by the clients (this is separate from the share you set up in Section I, step 4). You may be presented with a dialog requesting administrator privileges.
  7. Once the program is activated, a message will advise you that you were successful. Click Continue to start using the program. You may also be requested to update your registration information.
  8. The server has now been activated.
  9. Exit the program.
III. Setting up the Clients

Follow the steps below to setup the network clients.

If the software was DOWNLOADED from the website:

  1. Double click the FPS client installer file to start the installation procedure.
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation. During this process you will be prompted to select the directory on the server where the program was installed. (From Section I, step 4)
  3. The installer will automatically create a shortcut to the program in the Start menu.
  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for each additional client.
If you have a CD-ROM containing the software:
  1. Insert the Program CD-ROM into the CD Drive of the client.
  2. If Autorun is enabled a startup screen will appear. If not, from the task bar select Start, then Run. Type the letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by :\autorun.exe (e.g., D:\autorun.exe)
  3. Click on Install FPS 3000 Network to install the runtime system. Note: Do not install any of the other programs.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation. During this process you will be prompted to select the directory on the server where the program was installed. (From Section I, step 4).
  5. The installer will automatically create a shortcut to the program in the Start menu.
  6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 for each additional client.
IV. Install the Simutech Course Manager (SCM) software

Be sure to install this software on the same computer that the FPS 3000 program software was installed.

If the software was DOWNLOADED from the website:

  1. Just double click the downloaded file to start the installation procedure, then follow the instructions displayed on your screen.
If you have a CD-ROM containing the software:
  1. Insert the PROGRAM CD-ROM into the CD Drive.
  2. If Autorun is enabled a startup screen will appear. If not, from the task bar select Start, then Run. Type the letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by :\autorun.exe (e.g., D:\autorun.exe)
  3. Click on Install Simutech Course Manager and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

The Simutech Course Manager software can be accessed from any client computer that has the client runtime software installed. In order to do so, the directory where the Course Manager is installed must be shared with read/execute permissions. To allow easy access to the program from a client computer, manually create a shortcut to the Admin.exe in the shared directory.
