Creating Assessment Test Help Topics:

STEP 1: On the left side of the main page for the Training Assessment Tool, Select an appropriate training assessment category using the pull down menu as illustrated below.

training assessment category

Note: Only create training assessment test with this tool that "fit" the categories offered. They must be industrial, maintenance, engineering, electrical, mechanical, etc. related. An assessment about vacations will be deleted for example. The purpose of the relevant assessment is totally up to you though. It can be a short 5 question quiz, an employee pre-employment assessment test, survey etc., as long as it is relevant to the topic of this site.

STEP 2: Create an "Assessment Name" and "Short Description", then click [Check availability] button. The shorter the name of the assessment, test, or survey, the better; as the web page URL is created based on the the assessment name. If the purpose of creating an assessment is to give your company or organization more internet visibility, choose a name that most interested parties would type into a search engine. Apply the same search advice to the description you create, as it will become the web page description. For example, "PLC Equipment Survey" would be much better than "34-568 survey", "Electrical Test 101" would be more search engine friendly than "EL 101" as another example. (See illustration below...)

assessment name

Rule: Assessment Name can NOT include a period, comma or any special characters. Only use letters and numbers.

Example of Assessment Description: "This PLC equipment survey is to ensure you have taken steps necessary to reduce downtime due to equipment failure and PLC program loss."

STEP 3: Select your "Question Type" . There are three question types for you to choose from plus optional advanced features, as shown below.

test question types

By default, Assessment Test will show the student the correct answer if they answer it incorrectly, which makes this free online assessment  a great learning tool. But if you wish your assessment not to show student correct answer because you are using the free online assessment tool as an evaluation tool, check the appropriate box under "Optional Advanced Features". The "# of Multiple Choices"  field above is used with the "Match Q/A" type test when the software automatically generates possible wrong answers for each question.

Examples of assessment question types are in the table below.

Custom Multiple Choice Test: The most common of test question types, therefore the default.

Type Answer Test: A little more difficult to administer because the student has to type answer exactly as you did when creating the test. This type test is best suited for one word answers.

Example: "The acronym SOL stands for?" The answer would be "solenoid" but they might spell it incorrectly. The question would better be worded as ... "What is the three letter acronym for solenoid?" the answer would be "SOL"

Match Q/A Test: Match the question with the correct answer type test.

TIP: Use "# of multiple choices" box under "Optional Advanced Features", to set how many correct answers the student will have to chose from. In the example assessment on the right, the default number of 3 was selected.

STEP 4: Enter your 1st Question and Answer and then click on "Add Question" button. Do NOT click "Make Assessment" until you have added all your questions and answers.

Important: A minimum of 5 questions is required. If you would like the option to edit questions and answers after clicking the "Make Assessment" button, you MUST sign up so you can log in, otherwise no sign up is required.

Note: The "Example" button shows the examples below of how to enter question and answers. The proper formatting of questions and answers.

multiple choice form

With the "Custom Multiple Choice" type assessment above, you enter possible wrong answers to be displayed as answer choices in the "Possibilities" field, separating each possible answer with a comma. All possible answers you enter will be displayed in test for that particular question. (Most common type of test.)

Rule: You can not use a comma in your possible answer as the form uses a comma to separate possible answers.

type answer form

Remember with the "Type Answer" type of assessment above, the test taker must type answer spelled correctly (as you typed it in this form), so one word answers is the best format. (Great format for a spelling bee, if that was related to our industry.)

match question with answer

The "Match Q/A" type of assessment above is a form of a multiple choice test. Instead of typing your possible wrong answers in a field that is comma delimited, the online assessment tool automatically generates possible wrong answers by offering student answers from other questions in your assessment test. The number of possible answers offered to the student is determined by the number you entered in the "Optional Advance Features - # of Multiple Choices" field.

Example: With the "Match Q/A" type, if you had the following question and correct answers entered in the form above, the first question (8/4=?) might have 20,Red,2 as possible answers automatically generated by the online assessment software.

Q: 8/4=? A: 2, Q:4*5=? A: 20, Q: Apples are what color? A: Red

STEP 5: Repeat step  4 for each question in the test. Below are details of other information, and buttons on home page of this online assessment tool.
