Various electrical symbols are necessary to communicate the circuit's operation effectively. Many of the most common symbols were shown in the MCTrainer course. Keep in mind that each situation may require variations of these symbols. Also, remember that even though there are ANSI standards for these symbols, not all drawings will follow the standards. A competent technician will learn to discern the meaning of a symbol through careful analysis. A wiring diagram is an exact drawing of all the connections necessary to wire a controller correctly. The wiring diagram shows all the devices in the circuit and their physical relationship to one another. Terminal connections for all components, both power and control, are included in the wiring diagram. These types of diagrams are helpful for the connection of simple control systems. They are easy to follow and allow the technician to locate control components. They also show the locations of interlocks and their relationship to other equipment.
