Learn What is DeviceNet, Troubleshooting and Installation.

What is deviceNet?

DeviceNet® is a digital, multi-drop Fieldbus network that uses the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP™) for its upper layers and CAN (Controller Area Network) for its data link layer.

Learn what is DeviceNet, cable connectors, installation and troubleshooting, and the Allen Bradley DeviceNet power supply.

This course introduces the learner to industrial networking using DeviceNet (part of ODVA), one of today's many industrial networking protocols. EtherNet/IP is the most popular industrial protocol for a new installation. However, DeviceNet is still widely used in many manufacturing facilities worldwide and is more straightforward to learn the basics with than EtherNet/IP.

devicenet cable

DeviceNet Cable and power supply are covered extensively.

DeviceNet Cable, Topology, and Power Supplies ...

The sections on DeviceNet Cable, topology, and power supply increase understanding and retention using interactive simulations and dialog boxes. Here is a screen recording of the learner using the interactive DeviceNet cable pin diagram. As you will see in more screenshots and recordings below, we use interactives to teach the Device net power supplies, topology, and network topology.

More screenshots and animation recordings are below...

What is DeviceNet? - Training Video

In this "What is DeviceNet" video, we created by recording students going through different parts of the DeviceNet course and using the audio narrations built into the course. This video helps you to see what taking this course is like and additional examples of the details covered in this course.

Allen Bradley DeviceNet Course Screenshots and recordings:

Below are screen recordings of a student interacting with the course animations built into this Allen Bradley VFD course and screenshots from the course.

DeviceNet Troubleshooting

Here is an interactive animation screen recording to better illustrate the DeviceNet troubleshooting section. The course covers some essential troubleshooting tips and tricks but also touches on DeviceNet troubleshooting of intermittent, difficult ones to tackle.

What is DeviceNet architecture?

Above is a screen recording of a student interacting with a part of the course that answers the question, "What is DeviceNet Architecture?

what is DeviceNet topology

In this screen recording, you see the section that answers "What is DeviceNet topology".

As the course never expires, some sections, like the Allen Bradley DeviceNet power supply calculator shown, will make an excellent reference should the learner need it.

devicenet cable wiring simulator

At the end of the Physical Media section, a DeviceNet cable wiring simulator requests the student to build a network using the DeviceNet comments shown via drag and drop. The simulations help learners whose dominant learning style is kinesthetic (hands-on) to remember how to wire up a DeviceNet network.

DeviceNet grounding

Here is a screen recording of another kinesthetic (hands-on) exercise grounding the DeviceNet power supply and network. You will see an entire section on grounding, as some of the most challenging network and DeviceNet troubleshooting often involves grounding issues.

All of our automation training series courses focus heavily on kinesthetic learning. Something left out of most online courses.

DeviceNet Training Course - Features:

The DeviceNet Trainer also includes a button to access our DeviceNet Glossary of terms standard to industrial networking.

Devicent Glossary

Every screen has audio narration, text transcript, and the ability to bookmark pages. There is also a built-in glossary. The DeviceNet Trainer comes with an interactive, self-scoring final exam! Along with the interactive "self-scoring" final exam, the student can print a DeviceNet training certificate of completion upon scoring 85% or better.

School and Company Multiple User Licenses:

Built into the Site and Enterprise-licensed versions of this course software is a mini-LMS.

With the site licenses, students can print a certificate of completion, saving the student's score to a "student log file" accessible by Site and Enterprise license holders. That feature and others make the site license purchasing option perfect for Technical Schools, Community Colleges, Universities, Apprenticeship Programs, and company training departments.

Devicenet manual PDF

A DeviceNet manual (PDF Laboratory Manual) is included. It consists of optional questions and one or more exercises for each of the six sections. This lab manual allows students to understand DeviceNet installation and troubleshooting better. Included is a DeviceNet manual (PDF Laboratory Manual). It consists of optional questions and one or more exercises for each of the six sections. This lab manual allows students to understand DeviceNet installation and troubleshooting better. The content in the lab manual is optional for students/employees and is not needed to take and pass this course. Answer key to lab manual questions and exercises is also provided to instructors with a site license.

Because this Allen Bradley DeviceNet course starts from a beginner level and uses interactive animations to make learning easier, this course will also work for capable students without previous industrial networking experience.

The 35-page Lab Manual PDF is an excellent instructor aid.
