PLC Sinking Input & Sourcing Input
Have closer look at the PLC Sinking Input and Sourcing Output circuits.
This interactive "PLC Sinking Input" zoom tool just encourages you to study the PLC Sinking input circuit and the PLC Sourcing input circuit.
When working with PLC IO cards and sensors, it can be helpful to remember the saying; "opposites attract." If you have a PNP card, you'll need NPN sensors and switches. And vice versa.
To identify whether the common terminal is positive or negative, simply check the shared letter. For instance, in "PNP," the most common letter is "P," indicating a positive common. Conversely, an "NPN" device has a negative common.
Zoom in on each the PLC input cards. You will see one is "DC Source" and the other is "DC Sink".
